Plant-based Adventures: Guam
Food options: 3/5
Restaurants visited: Rice & Ramen, Primo Pizzakaya, Fu'una Cultures (I'm Into Something Good), Savage Sandwiches, Mosa's Joint
I had less than 48 hours to get unpacked from a trip and repacked to head to Guam. Unsure of what would be available there, I stuffed my luggage with all the snacks. I spent the first couple of weeks earing a bowl of rice and veggies every day since that was all I could find. Then, I was able to explore some and found delicious meals that made my time
When traveling far from home, I am not always sure about the availability of plant-based options. So, I was thrilled when I found a restaurant with a veggie option near my hotel. I had to stop by Rice and Ramen at least once a week. My go to order was the crispy mushrooms. The combination of vegetables, curry powder mushrooms, and garlic paste over a bed of rice hit the spot every time.
I finally made it to Primo Pizzakaya after passing by almost every day. My schedule and their hours rarely aligned, but I made it my mission to stop by for dinner. It was totally worth it! The presentation of the crispy Brussels Sprouts blew me away. I thoroughly enjoyed the savory Pleasure Island pizza with their vegan cheese, mushrooms, garlic, kale, and balsamic.
I was delighted to find a completely vegan restaurant in Guam with such variety. With new specials daily and convenient prepared meals ready for pick up, Fu'una Cultures (I'm Into Something Good) become a lunchtime favorite. The staff was incredibly kind on every visit, creating a welcoming environment. They readily offered insight on ingredients and made great recommendations. Each plate brought a burst of color and nourishment to my day.
Savage Sandwiches had me at the falafel patty, but I kept coming back for the fairy dust fries. The falafel patty was a great sub on the flavorful sandwiches and rice bowls. If I could have eaten fairy dust fries every day, I absolutely would have. I loved the flavors so much that I had to take some home with me. Of course, I got a bag of fairy dust; it has been a great addition to veggies, especially roasted potatoes.
When I wanted a hearty meal while I was in Guam, there was no question about where I was headed. I went straight to Mosa's Joint every time. This plant-based burrito bowl became my go-to order, and it never disappointed. The star of the plate was the cauliflower - light, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. The mix of textures and flavors made this one of the most memorable meals I had on island.
