Plant-based Adventures: Savannah, GA
Food options: 3/5
Restaurants visited: The Haunt, Zunzi's, Kayak Kafé, Fox & Fig
The Spanish moss hanging from the trees makes Savannah, Georgia one of the most idyllic cities. The last time we visited we only had a couple hours to explore the city and enjoy some food. So I was excited to return for a fall wedding and try a few more restaurants.
I have a tendency to save Instagram posts of all the food I want to try and then struggle to decide what I actually want to order. I normally resolve this by ordering 3-4 menu items. That's exactly how I would describe my experience at The Haunt. I was excited to try their menu filled with dishes made with foraged mushrooms and house made cheese. We ordered 2 shareable plates, 2 entrees, and dessert for a full experience.
Our next stop was Zunzi's for loaded sandwiches in a vibrant environment. The bright colors should have been an indication of how bold the flavors would be. We drizzled their special Zunzi's and spicy sauces over the veggie stuffed "meatballs" and sauteed vegetables on French bread.
The final restaurant on our food tour before the drive home was Kayak Kafé. It was a beautiful fall day to eat our food on the patio but cool enough to enjoy soup. The menu had numerous options that caught my eye, so I was happy we could place half orders. I decided on a soup and sandwich combo, and I could have eaten bowls of their delicious tomato soup.
Bonus: Unfortunately, we didn't have time to eat at Fox & Fig on this trip, but it definitely deserves a mention for Savannah eats. It's been a couple years since we visited, but the food was memorable. We enjoyed a few dishes, but the company of local friends made it even better.
